General applications for the ZEBRA , the " Hidden Hazard Exposer" are those areas which present the greatest hazards for motorists on the highway at night. Zebra may be applied to concrete , metal , wood etc , on & in such areas as bridge abutments , guard rails ( wood or metal ) , road medians , baricades , fire hydrants , telephone poles , lamp poles , railroad rolling stock numbers , monograms & lettering , safety and decorative reflectorization o vehicles , and other applications requiring high visibility at night.

Zebra has outstanding reflective brightness providing a very fine textured satin finish , and can be applied by a simple onecoat procedure.

For maximum unoformity and initial brightness , the application procedures recommended below should be carefully followed.

Zebra may be applied by spraying , silk screening , hand brushing , hand roller coating and dipping. Uniform results can be obtained very quickly with a minium amount of practice.
MIXING AND THINNING:
Zebra must be mixed vigorously and thoroughly until uniform. The paint should be reduced upto 15% with ZLR-10 or ZLR-11(retarder).


SURFACE PREPARATION:
Zebra is very similar to most paints , and preaparation for application should follow standard practices. The surface before application should be clean and dry.
 

PRIMING

Surface should be primed with zebra primer for before the application of the reflective liquid .
ABOUT PRODUCT

Zebra is available in a combination pack system. The combination pack system is ready for use. The combination pack system consists of the primer, retroreflective paint and thinner for the paint. The surface has to be coated with the primer first. When primer has fully dried only then must the retroreflective paint be applied. The paint can be thinned with up to 15 % with
ZLR-10 or ZLR-11(retarder) Please follow the instructions carefully to obtain good
retro reflectivity.

SPRAY APPLICATION - GENERAL

When using hand spray guns you should apply Zebra as follows:

(1) Prepare Zebra and the surface to be reflectorized as previously mentioned.

(2) The spray gun should be held 6 to 8 inches from the surface to be sprayed and an even single coat should be applied until the area is uniformly covered. A properly adjusted spray gun will finely splatter the reflective material onto the application surface. When you have incomplete atomization this minimizes overspray and gives best coverage and sharp edges.

(3) The Zebra coating should be heavy enough to be wet but not so heavy as to sag. If sagging occurs the coating is being applied too heavily and the gun should be moved faster when spraying. Maximum reflectivity, true daytime appearance, and opacity are achieved only when the coating is completely dry.

(4) You will have to constantly keep mixing the reflective liquid for a uniform and correct application.

(5) Reflectivity of Zebra may be checked by sighting down a flashlight held at eye level while standing at least 50 feet from the reflective surface in a darkened area. However, do not check the reflectivity until the Zebra has dried completely.

(6) All spray equipment, stencils, etc., should be cleaned thoroughly before and after use with recommended reducers.

Spray applications on abutments, bridges, curbs, small panels, etc.: Zebra may be applied to properly prepared surfaces of this type by spraying.
APPLYING ZEBRA TO LARGE PANELS BY SPRAYING :

(1) Maximum reflection may be obtained from Zebra.

(2) Spray the panels in a vertical position for the best coverage. To keep overspray minimized, when you have more than one panel to do, put the edges of the panels almost together and trigger the gun at the end of each pass.

(3) For best results it may be necessary to thin the Zebra paint before use. However, use only recommended thinners and only thin in the recommended ratio as previously mentioned.
 
STENCILING MARKINGS
Stencils: You will find that standard paint stencils of heavy paper or light guage metal are satisfactory. In the use of any stencils you will find that if they do not fit snugly against the surface some overspray will result, as with any spray or paint. However, overspray will be minimized if you use stencils that fit snugly against the surface.
   
SILK SCREEN PROCESSING
Zebra can be used for the complete or partial reflectorization of panels by the silk screen process with excellent results, particularly where lack of space, design, or lack of equipment precludes spray applications. Zebra may be applied to either the primer or the finish coat for complete reflectorization or reverse printing of large areas.

(1 ) SETUP : Use clean 250 mesh silk or nylon screen. The
frame size should be large enough to leave sufficient
"well" around the printing area to allow for screen "snap."

(2) TABLE SETUP : Screen frame should be set up for off contact printing. Screen should be adjusted with foam rubber pads to provide at least ½ to ¾ inch snap at the center of the screen. Uneven printing will result if there is insufficient snap in the silk.

(3) STENCILS : Water or lacquer soluble film stencils may be used.

(4) Use a sharp medium or hard rubber squeegee.
   
PROCEDURE - (1) For best results it is best not to keep a large amount of Zebra in the screen well. It is best to add smaller amounts more often since excess material will become overly thin through constant agitation by the squeegee. (2) A flood pass must be used prior to each impression pass. (3) Use a firm impression pass. (4) Dry according to Zebra standard drying schedule.

HAND BRUSHING -
Hand brushing of Zebra should be
done generally in non-critical applications on smooth
surfaces or on rough textured or porous surfaces. The
reflective liquid should be applied in full even strokes
with a good quality paint brush
 
SMOOTH SURFACES: Best results can be obtained with a soft, fine bristle brush such as a muslin brush. Close range appearance may be somewhat uneven but reflection and appearance will be adequately uniform at normal viewing distances.

DRYING:
The drying time for Zebra is 1½ hours. The coating can be tested after 12 hours.

COVERAGE:
Zebra retroreflective paint has a coverage of 20000 sq. inches* (140 sq. feet) if used for screen printing and a coverage of 14400 sq. inches* (100 sq. feet) when brush painted.* The coverage is calculated when used as per directions. This can vary as the product is applied manually.

STORAGE:
Zebra should be stored in a cool, dry place and should be used within one year
